Historically, brain injuries were classified as mild, moderate and severe based upon the duration of an individuals' loss of consciousness. More specifically, these classifications have been reconsidered based upon length and severity of amnesia, particularly post traumatic amnesia or PTA.
We find the use of the words "mild" and "moderate" to refer to a permanent change in the way the mind works incongruous. No lesser authority than the founder of medical science, Hippocrates agreed with our position, advocating the proposition that all brain injury is significant, but not necessarily devastating.

Meningitis Outbreak from Contaminated Injections
Fungus-contaminated steroid shots have caused 247 confirmed cases of people sickened and 19 people have died, according to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. New England Compounding Co. of Framington, Massachusetts allegedly prepared the fungus-contaminated steroid shots and sent them to more than 70 clinics in 15 states. The compounding pharmacy has recalled all products and suspended operations during the government-led investigation.
Most cases involve fungal meningitis, which is an infection of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. The fungal form of meningitis is rare and not contagious. The CDC said the disease typically develops within four weeks but can take longer.
Florida has reported 3 deaths and 13 illnesses. The state Health Department has identified 260 Florida facilities that received medications from the New England Compounding Center.

As thousands of tourists descend upon Florida's roadways and beaches seeking warmer weather over spring break, the potential for accidents to both vacationers and Florida residents arises. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the month of March seems to have the most fatal car accidents to have occurred over a five-year period. For many springs break visitors - college students in particular - heavy drinking is a prerequisite for a fun vacation.

By doing rehab to relearn basic tasks, a traumatic brain injury patient may be able to form new brain connections that allow him or her to move and talk again. Physicians have said that how well the patient recovers depends on the severity of the damage, but substantial progress can be made in some cases.

Two Oregon state troopers were surprised Sunday when the man that they had pulled over in a traffic stop in the suburban Portland area showed them a driver's license that seemed to feature someone else's photo.
At that point the troopers used their laptop computer to check the Facebook page of the actual automobile owner, who the driver said was his fiancée. Her "in a relationship" status on Facebook indicated that she was involved with a person named “Kerry Prowse”, and he seemed to resemble the driver. Moreover, Mr. Prowse also turned out to be a fugitive wanted for a prior parole violation.
When questioned further, the driver admitted he was actually Mr. Prowse and thereafter was immediately arrested on multiple charges including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. He was booked at the Clackamas County Jail.

"Malpractice"
If you are the victim of medical malpractice you may be feeling alone but medical malpractice has become a larger problem than most people realize. In fact, it is far worse than most medical professionals want to admit. Latest statistics actually show that approximately 225,000 people die every year due to some form of medical malpractice, and that is a staggering number for patients and health care professionals. Sadly even with such great numbers of fatalities, it still has not brought about the investigative measures that are actually needed to decrease the numbers of deaths related to medical malpractice.

What our body needs in order to maintain healthy joints is exercise. So even in a state of many injuries we must continue to move. Additionally, exercise can help prevent degeneration immobility. Most importantly, chiropractic care is critical in maintaining the proper movement in your spine. Just as you must regularly schedule exercise, you should maintain your regular adjustment schedule.
The discipline aspect of health is often more challenging for patients. It’s easy to begin any regimen. It’s really the staying with it that takes work. Often patients will begin their recovery by following guidelines for stretching, active rehabilitation exercises, etc. But their steady participation then drops off. They may fall off their treatment schedule. This can lead to a longer recovery time from an injury or a slow down in their improvement. People often become frustrated during this time, but I always encourage them to stay the course. It takes work to affect change in our life. But what cause is more worthy of our efforts than our health? Keeping on your adjustment and exercise schedule can yield remarkable results in a much shorter period of time.”

The Farmworker Coordinating Council serves farm workers by connecting them to community services they would otherwise not be able to access given language, cultural and economic barriers. In Palm Beach County alone farm workers speak several different languages including Spanish, Haitian Creole, and at least five Guatemalan Mayan languages. This makes communicating with agencies and businesses difficult and prevents farm workers from needed services. Many farm workers are newcomers to the area or even the country. Still others only reside in Florida for part of the year, making it difficult to orient themselves to the community. Furthermore, poverty, lack of transportation, and cultural barriers force many farm workers to do without needed services. Therefore, simple daily activities such as opening a bank account, seeking medical treatment or even filing a tax return become an impossibility for many. The Farmworker Coordinating Council strives to break down these barriers and empower their clients to fully integrate themselves into the community.
