BIBLE GUEST FOR THE WEEK
THE CRIPPLE AT THE GATE OF BEAUTIFUL
From the book of Acts chapter 3 verses 1 to 6, we see that Peter and John went to the temple to pray. They see this crippled beggar at the temple gate called Beautiful, and he asks them for money like he usually does. But Peter and John gave him something worth much more than money—healing.
The cripple had been in that state for so long that he had gotten used to it. The story says that he goes there every day to beg those going into the temple courts for money. It had become routine; he probably had given up on ever walking. He was born that way so he had just accepted that as his fate. As believers we cannot accept negative situations and give up on ourselves. Whatever you may be facing trust that God is able to change that situation, believe that He can and guess what, He will.
Again, the cripple expected nothing more than money from Peter and John. Hebrews 11: 6 says that “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to God must believe that He is, and is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”. The beggar had a limited view of what Peter and John could give to him. We cannot limit God; He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly far above all we could ever ask or think. God is greater than all we could ever know about Him. Whenever we go before Him with our requests we cannot afford to entertain a limited view of Him and what He can do.
Sometimes we need not tell God what we need. We may not even need the things we think we need. God may not grant our requests the way we want Him to, but we can be rest assured that He always has a better plan. The cripple thought he needed money, but God saw a deeper need; his real need which was healing and He met it. Sometimes our only prayer should be “I don’t know what is best for me Lord, so let Your will be done”.
