HUGE LEAK: Society of Petroleum Engineers admits that 35% of their wells worldwide are leaking. Check out this powerpoint document, leaked from SPE. "Sustained Casing Pressure" means that gas is circulating up the sides of the wellbore which might result in the discharge of gas or liquids into groundwater or into the atmosphere. They also admit that worldwide there is increasing awareness of zonal isolation problems (meaning gas leaks) and that solving the problem requires a "push in technology" (meaning they don't know how to solve it). Lastly, and most terrifyingly, they state that the gas and oil industry will drill more wells in the next decade than they have in the last 100 years.
