Due to the special situation in Cyprus in the last 2 weeks, we delayed in updating the consumption data of the two-month period January-February, 2013. We have just performed it now, hoping that life will return back to normal soon. These days, it is our duty to reduce our electrical consumption, not only to save money and protect the environment, but also to help our nation!
(english text follows) Η μέση κατανάλωση (στις οδούς) των χρηστών του Social Electricity, σε σχέση με τις καταναλώσεις στην υπόλοιπη Κύπρο για τους τελευταίους 6 μήνες του 2012, σε σχέση με την περσινή χρονία, 2011. Οι περιοχές που διαμένουν οι χρήστες μας παρουσιάζουν 10-11% καλύτερη ενεργειακή συμπεριφορά από πέρσι, σε σχέση με μια παγκύπρια μείωση από πέρσι της τάξης του 9-10% λόγω καιρικών συνθηκών, ακρίβειας στο ρεύμα και οικονομικής κρίσης.
The average consumption in the streets of the users of Social Electricity in relation to the rest of Cyprus for the last 6 months, in comparison to the previous year, 2011. The areas where our users live have reduced their consumption 10-11%, in regard to an overall reduction around Cyprus of 9-10%, which happens mainly due to different weather conditions, high prices for electricity and the financial crisis.

(english text follows) Όσον αφορά την τελευταία διμηνία Νοεμβρίου-Δεκεμβρίου 2012, με χαρά παρατηρήσαμε ότι στο σύνολο των 1,024 χρηστών της εφαρμογής μας, η κατανάλωση ενέργειας στις γειτονιές 854 από αυτούς (ποσοστό 83%) έχει μειωθεί σε σχέση με την αντιστοιχη διμηνία πέρσι το 2011 κατά 13% μέσο όρο! Concerning the latest two-month period November-December 2012, we observed with pleasure that in a total of 1,024 users of our app, the electrical energy consumption in the streets of 854 of them (83%) has been reduced in regard to the corresponding two-month period of 2011 by 13% in average. Each year, four international science institutions compile temperature data from thousands of stations around the world and make independent judgments about whether the year was warmer or cooler than average. “The official records vary slightly because of subtle differences in the way we analyze the data,” said Reto Ruedy, climate scientist at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. “But they also agree extraordinarily well.” All four records show peaks and valleys in sync with each other. All show rapid warming in the past few decades. All show the last decade has been the warmest on record.

Smart meters do not only exist for measuring electrical energy, but also for water consumption. The Swiss start-up company Amphiro (http://www.amphiro.com/en/) has recently introduced a very attractive water meter, with easy installation in taps and showers. Especially for Cyprus, such meters should be promoted, even subsidized at some time...
