Armed with your generous donations, Sarah Hall returned to the Philippines to get Kiwi pensioner Vernon Gardiner out of jail.
Vernon faced a sentence of 20 years for swindling, for taking money from a local man and failing to pay him back. Even the judge in the case said it was a travesty, that someone should pay the debt and get Vernon out. You came to the rescue, donating your cash.
What happened next was dramatic.
