Stop signs aren't the only things that get special attention in Portland. Horse rings are still sunk into our curbs (& city law states they must be replaced after curb maintenance), now instead of tethering living, breathing horses to the rings, we tether wild plastic horses instead. Here's the conference staff at the meeting yesterday. April 15th. Instead of doing our taxes at the last minute like good Americans, we had a conference meeting instead. We're 'givers' that way ;-)

Am pleased to introduce our Faculty Liason, Susan Cole! "Susan Cole is the Chair of the Visual Arts Department at Hudson's Bay High School where she teaches pottery & Advanced Placement Art Studio. She enjoys calligraphy, fusing & slumping glass, throwing on the wheel, gardening and her four grandchildren. Susan has been married to Dennis for 43 years and retires the week before the conference!"
Today we meet one of the conference staff! Marianne Nelson is co-chair of Transportation, Excursion & Receiving Co-Coordinators (you'd need at least 2 people with a title like that!) "Marianne Nelson loved calligraphy ever since she was introduced to it in a high school art class, but she never took any calligraphy classes until she retired and moved to Portland five years ago. She enjoys integrating her husband's nature photography into her calligraphy."
