January 12th is National Pharmacist Day and the Donate Life community begins a year-long project to use national days of recognition to tell the stories of people from many walks of life that have been touched by organ and tissue donation.
David Perzanowski is a pharmacist and owner of Vineyard Scripts on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. David’s life was saved in March of 2005 thanks to the brave decision of his donor family. He and his family including wife, Nellie and their five children are now advocates for organ and tissue donation, they share their story to encourage others to register.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is honoring 22 hospitals throughout the seven-county greater Los Angeles area for excellence in organ donation.
The HHS Medal of Honor is awarded in three categories to hospitals with an organ donation rate that meets standards for excellence. The clinical achievements indicate that the hospitals have integrated practices of donation in their standard procedures so more lives can be saved through organ transplants.

Donate Life California CEO Charlene Zettel attended a special memorial yesterday on the first anniversary San Diego Officer Henwood was shot in the line of duty.
She helped honor the people who worked so hard to save his life - and when that wasn't possible - those who worked so hard to honor his wish to be a donor.
Every TV station covered the standing-room only ceremony for this hero in life and in death.
Congratulations to Team SoCal; they came in third place for the team cup in the Transplant Games of America.
Team SoCal earned a total of 41 medals: 21 gold, 15 silver and 5 bronze. Way to go!!!

What an awesome start to Donate Life Month! 9 Million California's said YES!
In honor of the three lives lost in the tragic helicopter accident in Florida while they worked to save a life, we have inaugurated the 2012 Donate Life Float Memorial Garden with roses dedicated to the each of them. These roses are the first of 3000 to be placed in the Donate Life Float Memorial Garden and they will be front and center on the float and seen by millions on New Year’s Day. It is our hope that this memorial will help their colleagues and especially their families know that their memories and their personal sacrifice to the Gift of Life lives on.
