Scholarly report from University professor: Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga sect, "...has not provided particularly easy access to outside researchers..." Dr. Dusenbery says: "This relative lack of significant and sustained attention from scholars may, in part, be due to the fact that 3HO/Sikh Dharma has not provided particularly easy access to outside researchers – especially after Trilochan Singh’s highly critical appraisal of the Yogi Bhajan and his project (T. Singh 1977) and the negative publicity that ensued in the American media (Time Magazine article 1977)." SikhNet >As someone who converted from Christianity to the Sikh faith I found Sadda Haq inspiring! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOwcLrRYSqs
As an American who converted from Christianity to the Sikh faith, the film Sadda Haq was very inspirational for me especially when I witnessed my Sikh brothers & sisters fighting for the rights and freedoms of Sikhs in India.
The movie " Sadda Haq " shows the cruelty of Punjab police brutality against Sikhs. In my review of the film " Sadda Haq ", I saw many shocking atrocities committed by the Punjab police and the Indian government which all Sikhs should fight against. I was jailed in Amritsar's Ram Bagh police station in January of 2008 on false charges & I can attest to the brutal torture of prisoners by India's corrupt Punjab police. Read about my full account of the corruption and abuse of human rights by India's police and courts towards Sikhs in my new book "Confessions of an American Sikh" http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-American-Sikh-corrupt-ebook/dp/B00ANSWUPM/ref=zg_bs_158529011_1.
I also spent time in 1982 with Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale at the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) where he was martyred in 1984 after Indira Gandhi viciously attacked the Darbar Sahib with the Indian Army killing thousands of Sikhs. I describe my personal experiences with Sant Jarnail Singh in the book too. SikhArchives.com states:
Though presented with a Christian bias (which itself an occult religion), this video contains an accurate portrayal of Hinduism and occultism. Let me also add that the founders of America such as Paine, Franklin and Jefferson were deists and not Christians. America was a dream realized by dreamers who were seeped in the idealism of the age of reason.
Seneca and Cicero, as great as they were, were unable to restore the Roman Republic.

A Yogi Bhajan student said to me on fb "If the great Yogi Bhajan lied about the origins of Kundalini Yoga AWESOME....! "
Gursant Singh's response: Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh "How in the world can you say Bhajan's lies are "AWESOME"! Yogi Bhajan betrayed my trust and all those thousands of yoga students who sought a true spiritual path. When I was in 3HO for 30 years, I thought I was following the ancient and mystical form of the Sikh religion by practicing Bhajan's tantric / Kundalini yoga when in fact YB's tantric / Kundalini yoga has nothing to do with the Sikh religion. The Sikh Gurus never taught or practiced Kundalini yoga or tantric yoga in any form and there was a reason for that as authentic Sikhism has much better forms of meditation than Yogi Bhajan's synthetic way of smashing everyone into altered states by piling on more and more exercises, Bhajan’s made-up meditations and perhaps a gong session leaving people spacey and prone to induction into his cult. Yogi Bhajan is a fraud and a traitor to his students and all Sikhs alike!

Gursant Singh's recounting of his passage to India and out of a corrupt yoga empire is as enjoyable as it is compelling. This is a story of exploitation -- Gursant's victimization by his fraudulent master, Yogi Bhajan, and his own demoralizing work running scams to prop up the yogi's luxurious lifestyle. It's a quick-paced adventure that describes the ersatz Sikh lifestyle dumped on a clutch of white Americans and the peculiar dangers of the Indian bride trade. http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-American-Sikh-corrupt-ebook/dp/B00ANSWUPM/ref=zg_bs_158529011_1
The next book is really a scholarly report or paper: FROM MAHRAJ TO MAHAN TANTRIC The construction of Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga, Dr. Philip Deslippe from UC Santa Barbara says "Those closest to Yogi Bhajan and Maharaj Virsa Singh recount him telling the group of students in front of Yogi Bhajan that he (Maharaj Virsa Singh) never taught anyone yoga and that yoga had nothing to do with Sikhism", proving that Yogi Bhajan only dumped Virsa Singh as his guru and mentor because Virsa Singh refused to accept Yogi Bhajan's hodgepodge of Kundalini Yoga asanas.
http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17448727.2012.745303
Dr. Philip Deslippe's conclusions can further be summed up thus: "Without the lineage (to kundalini yoga) that he (Yogi Bhajan) claimed and without creating Kundalini Yoga out of whole cloth, Yogi Bhajan is best thought of as neither a lineage holder nor an inventor, but as a bricoleur (a mix of this and that) who brought together elements of different practices and presented them to his students as a distinct entity with a romantic mythology surrounding it."
Dr. Philip Deslippe also notes Yogi Bhajan's continuing frauds with the fact that Bhajan spread the myth that the Sikh Gurus practiced and taught Kundalini Yoga! This fraud by Yogi Bhajan is "Like a small restaurant that places mirrors on opposing walls to create the appearance of depth, it is from the singular person of Yogi Bhajan that all information about the lineage and practice of his Kundalini Yoga originates." Page 383 Note #3 "Some of the many instances in which Yogi Bhajan asserted that the historical Sikh Gurus practiced the same Kundalini Yoga that he taught include classes on 10 June 1971, and 12 January 1976, and undated Kundalini Yoga exercises such as "Indra Nittra Meditation' and Ong In Virasan (For Negativity)'. In the summer of 1976, an article was written in Kundalini Quarterly by Gurucharan Singh Khalsa and Rama Kirn that claimed that not only did the Sikh Gurus practice Kundalini Yoga, but also the very yogic practice predated them and 'gave rise to a group of practitioners known as Sikhs'."
The final book is Dr. Trilochan Singh's book from 1977 which is a very good critical analysis of Yogi Bhajan and his practices. The book was a real eye-opener for me! You can download the book for free at: http://gurmukhyoga.com/forum/index.php?mode=page&id=1
SikhNet >Some Yogi Bhajan kundalini yoga sudents say the Sikh Gurus did not favour organized religion nor did the Gurus offer instructions to people on how to live their lives.
The Sikh Guru Sahiban constantly gave Sikhs instruction on how to live their lives. It is recorded that the Sikhs often asked the Gurus for that kind of instruction and the Guru Saiban gladly gave it.
For example, Guru Gobind Singh ji gave 52 hukams at one time. There are also others from him. Here are 10 of those 52:
The 52 Hukams (Guidelines) of Guru Gobind Singh:
Earn by honest means.
Give one tenth of your salary [to others].
Memorize Gurbani.
Wake up Amrit Vela (before dawn).
Serve a Sikh Servant with devotion.
Learn the meanings of Gurbani from Sikh Scholars.
Follow the discipline of the 5 K's strictly.
Practice Shabad Gurbani in life.
Concentrate on the True Guru (God).
Accept Guru Granth Sahib Ji as Guru.
The rest you can read at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khalsa if you so desire.
Whether you want to obey the Guru's instruction or not is up to you, but Yogi Bhajan's yoga students should not live under the delusion that there is no historical precedence and validity to the Sikh Rehat Maryada, (Sikh code of conduct) or that it was conceived out of ego, or only by intellectuals.
Those who complied the Sikh Reht Maryada sought the guidance of many Brahm Gyani - men of God Awareness, as well as experts on Sikh History.

I was appalled after watching this video by Yogi Bhajan's 3HOers. "Video: Say What?! S#$t Kundalini Yogis Say" 3HO & these "Sikh/yogis" are an embarrassment to Sikhism! Notice that "Special thanks were given to Gurmukh Kaur's Golden Bridge Yoga studio" Gurmukh Kaur is featured in this article by SikhNet! Anybody who donates to SikhNet should watch this video to see how tantric / kundalini yoga leads to complete physical and mental debauchery! It seems to me that Yogi Bhajan's 3HOers just flat out don't understand just how this will wound traditional Sikh sentiments as the Sikhs of Punjabi descent find out what Yogi Bhajan's 3HOers are doing. Maybe they just don't care!
The yoga student who made the video is an actress/model from LA named Jules Hartley. At Gurmukh Kaur's Golden Bridge yoga studio she goes by the name Saraswati Kaur. Presumably she is the lipstick-wearing yogini in the turban.

Yesterday in front of the Indian Embassy in San Francisco, several hundred Sikhs sent the Indian government a strong demand to commute Professor Bhullar's death sentence. Will SikhNet march with Sikhs to Stop execution of professor Bhullar? Protest at Indian embassy San Francisco April 18th!
DEVENDER PAL SINGH BHULLAR AT RISK OF IMMINENT EXECUTION
AWAKEN AND MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD! Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar has been denied his clemency request, and could potentially be hung within 24 hours. He is a Sikh political prisoner that has been imprisoned for the past 18 years - since 1995. There is no evidence that he committed the alleged crime he is on trial for. Out of 133 witnesses presented at prosecution, not a single one identified him and the confession used was produced by police force. Bhullar states that they threatened him to sign or be killed in a fake encounter (a very real possibility, as this occurred with his father). He has been tortured mercilessly, which has affected his mental and physical health.
In October 2010, SOPW volunteers from the UK travelled to India to meet some of the prisoners; one of them was Prof Bhullar who asked for a message to be relayed to the Sangat:
“Help the Shaheeds, whether living or passed away" (the phrase “living Shaheeds” is for those such as the Sikh prisoners for whom each day is a sacrifice). Three years later and Professor Bhullar is now on death row. We must do something to ensure he is not hung. We must stand up against injustice and ensure the Indian government knows they are being watched on an international scale for atrocities committed.
Professor Bhullar’s life now hangs in the balance. It is unclear how much longer we have, so we call on the sangat to immediately rise to their feet and protest the injustice that Bhai Sahib faces.

SikhNet > Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave his Sikhs a high standard to live by. Maxim of Guru Gobind Singh Ji: Tyaa-e-tyaar : ever ready : meaning Sikhs are required to be ever ready. Why? the circumstances of the world were too vitiated in 1699 for peaceful dialogue. The circumstances of the world remain too vitiated.

Guru Gobind Singh – Do not appear before me without unshorn hair or arms
Guru Gobind Singh, 1699 (Creation Of The Khalsa) : The Khalsa must be fully armed at all times. Sikhs were required to wear the long sword which was the common weapon in 1699. The long sword was subsequently called kirpan (kirpa – service , an – that which). ( Aside: notice that the lollipop suckers are not wearing long or short kirpans).
Guru Gobind Singh Ji- in the epic composition Zafarnama (composed in the Jungles of Maachiwara): I used weapons of all types … Swords, Scimitars, daggers, weapons of all types, we worship these.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji at the Castle Of Anandpur Sahib (while under seige by the Moghul Army): Khalsa Ji, If you will wait a little bit longer, I will establish Khalsa Rule.
Guru Hargobind Ji (after the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev): If Sikhs wish to make offerings, they should bring weapons and horses.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji (prayer offered to God): O Lord, grant me this one boon, that when my time comes to die, may I die in mighty strife on the battlefield.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji (direction given to the Khalsa): When all peaceful means have failed, it is lawful to pick up up the sword.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji (in the Jungles of Maachiwara upon hearing that his two sons aged 7 and 9 years had been entombed alive upon their refusal to convert to Islam): I shall make the sparrow hunt the hawk and I shall make one man fight a legion, then only shall I be called guru.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji:
“I salute the weapons of ALL Names ||
I salute the Arms of ALL Kinds ||”
Guru Gobind Singh Ji: Raj Bina Dharam nehi chalee, Bina dharam sab dhale male (Without sovereignity the Sikh Religion cannot flourish, without the Sikh Religion all is lost).
Guru Gobind Singh Ji: Raj Karega Khalsa, Aakhi Rahe Na Koi: The Khalsa shall have sovereignity, the enemies of the Khalsa shall be vanquished.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji : What matters it that four have died, a hundred thousand live. Reply given when reminded that his two elder sons aged 15 and 17 had died on the battle field of the Respected Castle Of Chamkaur and that his two younger sons aged seven and nine years had been entombed alive upon their refusal to convert to Islam. In consequence of this reply, all chaste Sikh families are required to instruct their children that they are sons and daughters of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and all children MUST be addressed with the gender non-specific puuth.
Sardar Gursant Singh : Not only had the sword but EVERY weapon became an attributive symbol of God for Sikhs.”
“Decrees from the Tenth Sikh Guru state in the most vigorous words that a Sikh’s conception of God is the sword of dharma.”
Sikhi Is Proven On The Anvil Of History: If you have not read authentic Sikh History, you will never understand the Sikh Religion.
Duty Of Emulation Imposed On Sikhs: Guru Gobind Singh is considered the beau ideal of the Sikh nation and all Sikhs are required to emulate the Guru.
Saying Of The Sikhs: The Khalsa never begs for mercy. The duty of the Khalsa is to offer it’s head in the cause of truth.
US Sikh moves court against California gun law -

CHANDIGARH: A US-based baptised Sikh Gursant Singh Khalsa has filed a lawsuit against the state of California, saying its gun law is "stopping me from fully practicing my religion by not allowing me to own and use assault rifles and high-capacity magazines".
According to California's laws, military-style, semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines are banned in the state.
Gursant, who offers classes in fireams training, rifle use, self-defence and the security of Sikh gurdwaras across the United States and Canada, has abundantly mentioned the doctrines of tenth Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh and tenets of Sikh religion to argue his case in the federal court of California.
The suit was filed in March last week and the case is set to be heard on April 13.
"The Sikh doctrine requires Sikhs be fully prepared all the time to defend themselves and others against injustice. Our Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh instructed Sikhs that without uncut hair and weapons, they should not come before me," the lawsuit pointed out.
It said, "I feel my religion dictates that we should all have weapons of all kinds to defend ourselves. By not being able to carry an assault rifle or weapon that has a high-capacity magazine, I don't feel that I can defend myself or my family."
Gursant also pointed out that some practicing Sikhs already carry a popular religious weapon called kirpan or dagger for protection.
The lawsuit has also made explicit references to the attack at the Wisconsin gurdwara on August 6 last year.
"If assault weapons were legalized in California, the loss of life in mass shooting tragedy in Wisconsin in July last year could have been averted," Gursant is quoted as saying in the lawsuit.
Seven people, including a US police officer and six Sikhs, had been killed in the shooting at the gurdwara.
"We believe in self-defence and standing up for our rights. And to defend oneself, if necessary, use lethal force," he added.
Gursant, who is a son of a US Marine Corps officer and was five times in the running for the US Olympics rifle team, said such a right should be available to all Americans with proper training.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave his Sikhs a high standard to live by. It is a noble challenge and we need to protect the right in the United States of America to be able to live to the Guru's great character, high standard of responsibility and discipline of carrying firearms, the sword of God, if you will. Sikh man cites religion in lawsuit against gun controls
By David Sherfinski The Washington Times
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/mar/28/sikh-man-cites-religion-lawsuit-against-gun-contro/
A Sikh man is suing the state of California over its gun laws, arguing they violate his First Amendment rights to practice his religion by barring him from carrying the kind of weapons he says he needs for self-defense.
Gursant Singh Khalsa, a practicing Sikh for 35 years, charges in the lawsuit filed this month that California's laws banning military-style, semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines violate mainstream Sikh doctinre requiring Sikhs "be at all time fully prepared to defend themselves and others against injustice."
"We're required to wear what's called a kirpan" or dagger, he said Thursday. "I feel, as far as my religion goes, it dictates that we should have all weapons of all kinds to defend ourselves. By not being able to carry an assault rifle or weapon that has a high-capacity magazine, I don't feel that I can defend myself or my family."
Mr. Khalsa, who lives in Yuba City about 40 miles north of Sacramento, said he believes such a right should be available to all Americans with the proper training but that it's also specific to the Sikh religion, which has roots deeply tied to self-defense.
"Some splinter groups attempt this by wearing symbolic miniature daggers in their turbans, to comply with this requirement," he argues in the lawsuit, filed in federal court in California. "But mainstream Sikhs believe this requirement is a literal and true moral duty. As Guru Gobind Singh instructed his Sikhs; 'Without uncut hair and weapons do not come before me'."
Gurpatwant Pannun, a lawyer with the New York-based advocacy group Sikhs for Justice, said that carrying a sword is indeed a part of the religion, but wasn't sure that the letter of the religion extends to carrying so-called assault weapons.
"It is an integral part to carry a sword, but whether that [provision] of carrying a sword goes to carrying an assault weapon, I'm not sure," he said. "But carrying a sword is definitely an integral part of the religion."
Mr. Khalsa, in his lawsuit, argues that the "sword" goes beyond the literal object.
"Decrees from the Tenth Sikh Guru state in the most vigorous and clear words that a Sikh's conception of God is the sword of dharma," he argues. "Not only the sword but every weapon became an attributive symbol of God for the Sikhs."
The lawsuit also contains a reference to the attacks of Aug. 6, 2012, when a gunman killed six and injured several others at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisc., a suburban of Milwaukee.
"I feel that if a Sikh had been armed, they could have taken that guy out," Mr. Khalsa said Thursday. "We believe in self-defense, standing up for your rights, and, if necessary, to defend yourself and, if necessary, use lethal force to stop someone."
The lawsuit also says that California's laws infringe on the Second and Fourteenth Amendment rights of Mr. Khalsa and others.
Mr. Khalsa, the suit reads, "fears arrest, criminal prosecution, incarceration, and fine if he were to possess loaded weapons with 11 or more round magazines within his home, within his vehicle on the streets, or within his temple. But his religious beliefs require no less."
Mr. Khalsa has also issued a summons to Gov. Jerry Brown.
Mr. Brown's office did not respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit Thursday.

FDA: Beware of ‘black henna’ tattoos
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/style-blog/wp/2013/03/26/fda-beware-of-black-henna-tattoos/
Spring Breakers, beware. That henna tattoo might really not be henna at all. And it might not be as temporary as you think.
The Food and Drug Administration warned Monday that the popular temporary tattoos, in which ink is applied to the skin in intricate patterns that last from several days to several weeks, can actually last a lot longer. And not in a good way.
“Just because a tattoo is temporary it doesn’t mean that it is risk free,” Linda Katz, director of FDA’s Office of Cosmetics and Colors, said in a consumer update.
The agency said some consumers have reported a range of adverse reactions that can outlast the tattoos themselves and, in some cases, have led to emergency room visits. Among them: Skin redness, blisters, raised red weeping lesions, loss of pigmentation, increased sensitivity to sunlight and even permanent scarring.
Traditional henna is a reddish-brown coloring made from a flowering plant found in parts of Asia and Africa. For centuries, people have ground henna into a paste and used it to decorate everything from leather to hair, fingernails and skin. The FDA attributed many of the problems that have occurred to the use of “black henna” that often is used in place of the more traditional henna. It can include hair dye with p-phenylenediamine, or PPD, which can cause an ugly range of skin reactions. A study last August in the Journal of the German Society of Dermatology found that PPD in hair and eyelash dye caused allergic reactions in a group of people.
Black henna often can be found in temporary tattoo kiosks common in tourists areas, such as beach boardwalks. The FDA noted that while some states have put in place regulations governing temporary tattooing, others have not.
So be careful with those henna tattoos out there, kids.

Yuba City Sikh says assault weapons ban infringes on his faith By Griffin Rogers/A-D Reporter
2013-03-13 18:17:55
The sword of dharma isn't enough for a Yuba City man who filed a federal lawsuit against California on Tuesday claiming the state is infringing on his Sikh religion by not allowing him to own and use an assault rifle.
Gursant Singh Khalsa, a follower of Sikh faith for 35 years, filed a lawsuit in US District Court in Sacramento claiming the state is preventing him from fully practicing his religion by restricting his possession and use of assault rifles and high capacity magazines.
"I definitely intend to fight it," he said. "I'm not just doing it for fun."
Khalsa said he needs the assault rifles and high capacity magazines to properly defend himself and protect others — actions that cannot be accomplished with California's gun laws.
The idea to sue the state for infringing on his religion has been on Khalsa's mind since he moved here from New Mexico, where gun laws aren't as strict, he said.
"It really started to dawn on me just how much of a disadvantage California residents are," Khalsa said.
According to the lawsuit, hate crime attacks in the nation have accelerated because people see Sikhs' turbans and mistake them for Taliban members.
Yuba City resident Harjeet Singh, a software engineer and member of the Punjabi American Heritage Society, said Sikhs are required to have weapons, but that doesn't necessarily mean they should carry assault rifles.
"In my personal opinion," he said, "I don't think you need an assault rifle to protect yourself."
Many Sikhs abide by a code of conduct that requires followers to possess weapons for self-defense, Singh said, but the code can be broad and interpreted in several ways. For this reason, Singh said Khalsa isn't wrong for filing a lawsuit against California because Khalsa is interpreting the code in a broad sense.
Khalsa said he thinks all Californians should fight the assault rifle and high capacity magazine ban, and that teaching gun safety should be a priority.
"If you learn how to fire weapons and respect them, they are nothing more than a tool," he said.

Gursant Singh says, “It is therefore incumbent on Sikhs to carry handguns and have ready access to assault rifles in today's modern society where we face armed violent criminals and hate mongers! If you fear guns and ban them for law abiding citizens then the bad guys who will always have guns win. We must train our youth in the skill & safety of using firearms, respecting guns should be the goal, not taking them away from them. When I moved to California from New Mexico, I was shocked that California will not allow loaded guns in any car and limits 10 rounds to an ammunition magazine. What happens if there is a shooting like the one in Wisconsin where a gunman killed six Sikh worshipers at their temple? I have tried-out for the US Olympic shooting team five times and I know if I had an assault rifle with twenty or thirty rounds in the magazine, the gunman in Wisconsin could have been stopped more quickly and lives saved. I think California’s gun laws stop me from freely practising my religion which teaches that it is our duty as Sikhs to put up the strongest defense possible using modern handguns and assault rifles with high capacity magazines.
Gursant Singh Khalsa, a follower of the Sikh faith for 35 years, filed a lawsuit against the State of California in Federal Court, claiming that the State of California is stopping him from fully practising his religion by restricting his possession and use of assault rifles and high capacity magazines.

Some Sikhs have accused me of using quotations exclusively from the Dasam Granth in justifying a Sikh's responsibility to use modern weapons like assault rifles to defend those that cannot defend themselves in today's society against violent attackers. We all agree that Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is our living Guru and the ultimate authority. However, Sikhi is not only based on SGGS. To give you just one example, Khalsa and the ceremony of amrit sanchar are nowhere mentioned therein (other than the word “Khalsa” occurring in one shabad by Bhagat Kabir ji).
Another example: of the five shabads required for amrit sanchar and for a devout Khalsa to recite every day, only two are in SGGS. Does this mean that the other three are not Gurbani?
Also, to follow these detractors' arguments to their logical conclusion would mean that the teachings of the sixth, seventh, eighth and tenth gurus have no authority because they are not included in SGGS.
We have had some discussion before about the Rehit Namey – the “does and don’ts” if you will, written by some of the Gurus and others who were close to the Gurus.
Whatever these detractors think of the Sikh Reht Maryada (SRM), when it was compiled, those who did it took careful note of all possible sources of direction for the Panth and weighed them up as regards to their validity and authenticity. There is tradition, precedent and often written records behind the SRM. Would these detractors argue that these things are somehow invalid because they are not written in SGGS?
These detractors seem to be suggesting that ONLY what is written in SGGS is Gurbani. Does this mean that we ignore the many teachings of the Guru Sahiban whose words were NOT placed in SGGS?
This would mean that the whole concept of Khalsa, the 5 “K’s”, the Panj Bani, the Panj Pyare, and many other things, are not divinely ordained and therefore invalid in the detractor's eyes.
Personally I think the words of Guru Gobind Singh ji regarding weapons are very clear. If these detractors would like some confirmation from another source here is an extract from the first time Guru Hargobind Sahib addressed his Sikhs:
"Today the offerings that are beloved to me are good weapons and good youth. If you want my happiness, then exercise your bodies, wrestle, play gatka, go into the jungles to hunt and learn to ride horses. Weakness is now a crime to the Nation that cannot be forgiven for anyone. You will take up the sword and I now wear the sword so that the swords of tyranny and oppression will stop forever.
You have all come from far and wide today. The cool tranquility has been stolen from not just your heart and my heart, but from the entire world. Our swords will not rest until we bring this oppression to an end."
Finally, these detractors say that Guru Gobind Singh Ji said that those who worship him will go straight to hell. What Guru Ji actually said was “Those who say that I am God…….." I would never say this. Not, for that matter, have I ever worshiped Guru Gobind Singh ji. I consider that I am only following a well-documented and recorded instruction to carry weapons given by the Tenth Guru which is not worshiping him; but rather serving him.

Full letter from MSS Hari Jiwan Singh Khalsa:
Yogi Bhajan, Beverly Hills, Plenty of Thrills and Frills,
Sat Nam Dear Family,
On one of our afternoon outings, the Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan, and I wound up at Antiquarius which was a large building in Beverly Hills housing many small shops. I had previously purchased a nice watch from a dealer who had a shop in this arcade. The Master and I walked up to the second floor where our watch man was located.
We looked through the shop, talked to the watch man, then moved on to other shops. As we traveled about shop to shop, the Master charmed each and every shopkeeper, save one. Now the story begins.
The last shop before we left the arcade was a big kiosk located in the center of everything. We stopped there. I love porcelain and had a substantial collection. This shop had everything: jewelry, porcelain, art, antiques, you name it. The porcelain he had displayed pulled me in. While we were looking at the Sevre service set from the 18th century, a burly gentleman (let’s call him Mr. A) approached in a very intimidating manner. I came to learn that Mr. A was a great football player, so you can imagine his demeanor. He began quoting the Bible to us in the most challenging way as if we were the devil and the environment needed cleansing.
I whispered to the Master, “Let’s get out of here. This guy is obnoxious.” “Shhh,” he said to me, letting me know that I was to stay out of this situation. I understood. The Master intuitively new how to handle this situation perfectly, he just acted as if the only thing they needed to talk about was the items for sale. Well, what do you know, that worked a perfectly. All of a sudden this Mr. A became a charming salesman. Charm is necessary to be a good salesman, and Mr. A started displaying plenty of it. He began to fawn all over us as the price of each item we were interested in was discussed. We bought a nice piece of jewelry and the relationship was cemented.
Mr. A became a student of the Master albeit within reason. The Master referred to him as his “short haired Sikh.” It was a relationship the Master appreciated. Let me give you an example.
Occasionally, the Master would force Mr. A to do more than expected, usually, commanding that a certain price for an item be acceptable, a price well below the asking price. It would be great fun to see these fake negotiations and protestations. Sometime I would be called in to remind Mr. A that it was in his best interest to lose on one deal when the Master requested it as he would more than make it up on the many more deals in the future. This reminder always worked because it was true. It was always a game worth playing. Mr. A understood the Master’s rules and the fun would continue.
Mr. A moved his store to the heart of Beverly Hills and became a big player in the city and social scene. Mr. A was proud to be associated with us and included us everywhere, everywhere the people of Beverly Hills were gathered. We had the grand tour: charity events to fundraisers, you name it. We became part of the mix they call Beverly Hills people. We didn’t think of ourselves as such, but we were nevertheless.
If the Master would have listened to me, we would have never had the opportunities we were afforded. Mr. A (and his whole family) welcomed us in. Yes, they had their rules, but there was a meeting of the mind and heart which Mr. A couldn’t deny. Mr. A is as much a part of our spiritual family as we think we are. It was a fabulous ride, especially for me. I could have been a Beverly Hills kid. I’m sure I was in my own way. I thought to myself, ‘here I am on a spiritual path, yet living a life I thought I left behind. How lucky was I. Mr. A was a fabulous guide through this world. I thought, ‘this is a pretty good deal.’ It was.
These occasions gave the Master a chance to observe America and Americans from the highest perspective. Many of his Teachings are littered with references of people and events from these experiences. Usually, Teachings about how money and status don’t provide happiness. In fact, usually just the opposite as many people he met would come to him for guidance. So, he knew from firsthand knowledge the pain in their lives. It made a tremendous impact on him, his Teachings, and his students. No matter what you have, a life without contentment is a life not worthy of living.
Mr. A still identifies with his Christianity. That’s as it should be. But, if you were to ask Mr. A who is his spiritual Teacher, without reflection he would say, “the Siri Singh Sahib is the one I respect. He’s the Master.” Just think all this because I didn’t get my way. What a blessing. Once again, it taught me to get over myself and just follow as he does. As we say in the west, he’s the living alchemist: he turned negativity into positivity – that’s the true alchemy. He had the right tools. He knew what he was doing. Plus, he was always covered by his Guru and provided with the right way of thinking and acting in all circumstances. For him, there was no more doubt. His faith was fixed through his service. I learned to just enjoy how he lived rather than judge it. Guess what, it was and is a great ride.
Our Master taught me a confidence which is timeless. His confidence came from his Guru. His faith had worked countless times before, so why shouldn’t he be confident in his protection now? Well, he was. I became a part of that confidence. I believed that, so long as I was with him, everything would be O.K. I was blessed to see that I was right. Everything is O.K. It still is. I’m still with him. Stay Tuned,
In the Humility of Service and Gratitude,
MSS Hari Jiwan Singh Khalsa
